Dry Roll Compaction Vs. Wet Granulation
While roller compaction is not suitable for all agglomeration requirements, it does offer many superior characteristics and cost-advantages when compared to wet granulation. Roller compaction:
- A dry process eliminates the need for liquid binders and drying equipment associated with wet granulation. Micro problems are nearly non-existent.
- Offers the economy of continuous operation and greater throughput. Wet granulation often requires batch processing with stop-and-go operating cycles.
- Produces a more precise granule size and density preferred as an intermediate material in tableting or a final, free flowing product.
